Say NO to Discrimination
Discrimination has been defined as the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people.
These categories of people could be discriminated on grounds of race, sex, disability among others
Section 42 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides for the right to freedom from Discrimination.
This section of the constitution upholds the right from discrimination. And as such, on no account should a citizen of Nigeria face any form of discrimination no matter how minute it can be.
The constitution specifically states that an individual should not face discrimination no matter the:
- Community;
- Ethnic group;
- Place of origin;
- Sex;
- Religion;
- Political opinion;
- Circumstances of birth
Any form of discrimination towards a citizen of Nigeria is an Infringement on his right and this is validated by the constitution. The constitution frowns against discrimination.
Furthermore, a citizen should not be deprived, restricted of opportunities , or positions in government on the terms of discrimination based on his or her community, ethnic group, place of origin, sex, religion, circumstances of birth or any political opinion.
In practice, there are several instances in which individuals and group of people have been deprived of opportunities, people are being discriminated and denied of various roles. This is a major bane in our society and country Nigeria.
For example, favouritism in politics due to ethnic groups, however, this should not be So!
No one should be discriminated!
