Hi there beautiful reader
Welcome to another enlightening session on Knowlegde Tent!

Before we begin, we implore you, kindly follow us on Instagram at Knowledgetent (you’ll see our logo)

In our last discussion we learnt about the Section 37- Right to private and family life. Todaay, we’ll be learning about Section 38

Section 38 of the Constitution provides that every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

  • You have the right to decide on the religion of your choice
  • You have the right to change your religion as you so wish, at any point in time, without necessarily consulting another person.

A change of religion should not be under any form of compulsion by any person, association or government.

You’re free to think what you want, and choose whatsoever religion you want and also express it!

The Supreme Court of Nigeria had on the 17th of June 2022, upheld the Court of Appeal’s decision which allowed the use of hijab by female Muslim students in Lagos State.

As a result of this decision, a lawyer, Malcolm Omoirhobo, appeared at the Supreme Court dressed in an attire as though he was a herbalist.

I’m certain many Nigerians haven’t forgotten about this.

He explained that the decision of the Supreme Court promotes the right to freedom of though, conscience and religion.

Although his action was somewhat ludicrous, hilarious and likely to bring about sanctions due to his noble profession, he, however was merely expressing his fundamental right guaranteed and protected in the constitution and affirmed by the Supreme Court.

Please don’t say I told you to dress like a herbalist o!

Meanwhile, this section of the constitution prohibits the forming or taking part in the activity or being a member of a secret society or secret cult.

This is where we draw the curtain today, thank you for yet another time of learning

Do well to enforce these rights and as always..

We appreciate how far you’ve continually read our posts, clapped, shared and supported us and we don’t take it for granted! Thank you!

The goal is to ensure that majority are aware of these rights so let’s make that happen together.
So please do well to share to lots, lots of people!
Kindly follow us and drop a clap
